The G.A.R. or Grand Army of the Republic was an organization for Union Veterans after the “War of the Rebellion.” This organization began as a place for the veterans to gather for camaraderie. It rose to be a very powerful political force of nearly 500,000 veterans in the United States. William McKinley joined Canton Post No. 25 on July 7, 1880, later renamed in his honor, Wm. McKinley Post No. 25. We have this and countless other artifacts surrounding President McKinley’s life, and our beloved Stark County. Come in, and see us Monday through Friday 9A.M. to 4P.M.
