The McKinley Presidential Library had very special visitors today!

Mom and three young boys from New York City made a special trip to see William McKinley’s Presidential Library! One of the young boys knows more than the average 2nd grader about our 25th president. This young boy came in and impressed us all with a talk on the assassination of William McKinley, that included details down to his lucky scarlet carnation. His mother purchased a booklet I made that commemorates the career of William McKinley.

He told me McKinley was his favorite president.

We wish these boys well in their journey to better appreciate history, politics, and America!

During the restoration of the Onesto Hotel the Ramsayer Research Library has provided information pertaining to the legacy of Frank Onesto, and the Hotels he owned and operated. During our research we discovered this photo (above) of the McKinley Hotel, first dubbed the Saxton Hotel in 1901. The photo on the right is the McKinley Grand today. The 1901 McKinley Hotel sat at the corner of Market Avenue South & 8th Street. In 1913 the street names were changed in Canton. Eighth street became 3rd street, where the modern McKinley Grand sits today.

The Secret Gift Exhibit is closed, and the artifacts have been processed. The lucky letters and checks and year books that were chosen to be in this most touching exhibit will be stored away, and kept safe. Occasionally a visitor will come in to see a letter, we had one this morning, but for the most part these letters will not see the light of day for a long, long time. The real question is how long will they sleep. What is there future. Will someone use them in another exhibit. Will there be a revival of interest on the 100th anniversary of the 1933 ad being placed in the Canton Repository offering so much to so many. Thank you artifacts for your service to the community. How long will they Rest…
