Last Friday at 3:40 I headed downtown to Day Ketterer Law firm to witness the unveiling of historic documents dating back to the 19th Century. Jennifer Novotny, Director of Client Services & Development invited us to attend this event. She instructed me to park in the parking deck in the rear of the Millennium Building located at 200 Market Avenue N. Suite 300 Canton, OH 44702. When I arrived I immedietly found another Canton treasure.
It appears as though someone owned a house downtown, and saw the need to build a business around it. The result is this outcropping, or topper, if you will.
When I arrived at Day Ketterer, Jennifer was there to greet me at the elevator doors and escorted me into the area where the unveiling would take place. We were witnessing history in the making as Day Ketterer marks its 142 year in business in Canton, Ohio. Our city directories reveal their name was Lynch, Day, & Lynch in 1878. They made this unveiling a true event, with hors d’oeuvres. The purpose of the event was two-fold. One, the firm unveiled a new tag line: Modern Law Since 1872. Two, the documents which flanked the tag line on either side. Jennifer Novotny spoke first, explaining the inception of the project, and the new tag line.
Next, Rob Roland, Managing Partner spoke on the new tag line, and its simplicity.
It was great to see so many people interested in the history of their company.
Day Ketterer was founded 5 years after a young lawyer arrived here in Canton. A young veteran of the War Between the States. A young man, not yet known on the national scene, who has his eye on the prettiest girl in town. William McKinley would meet William Day, and a lifetime bond of friendship would form.
